The Snowy Hydro Futurist competition is designed to spark students’ interest in STEM by providing an opportunity to explore energy conservation and Australia’s transition to a renewable future. Participants are tasked with investigating a renewable energy future and proposing solutions to reduce energy emissions.
To participate, students must fill in the electronic entry form and attach both Part 1 and Part 2 for a complete submission. The competition consists of two parts: Part 1 requires a photo or video of the idea/invention, and Part 2 requires a written or video explanation of the idea/invention (1-2 minutes maximum). The idea/invention should be innovative, insightful, and creative, focusing on energy conservation to reduce emissions in a renewable world. The accompanying explanation must clearly address the following questions: What is the problem being addressed? What is the proposed idea? How does it work?
The competition is open to students in years 3 to 12 (aged 8 to 18 years) across Australia. There are two age categories: Junior (ages 8 to 12 years old) and Senior (ages 13 to 18 years old). Entries will be judged by a panel and through a community choice category. There will be two winners and two runners-up for each age category.
Resources are available to help students develop their ideas and solutions.
