Introducing the SUBS in Schools Technology Challenge™, a groundbreaking competition born out of collaboration between REA, the Department of Defence, and esteemed industry stakeholders including the Australian Submarine Corporation and Saab Australia. This pioneering initiative was conceptualized in response to the Australian Government’s momentous announcement of the $50 billion Future Submarine Program, making it the world’s first submarine design competition of its kind.

Building upon the successful framework of the renowned F1 in Schools program, SUBS in Schools provides students with access to industry-standard technology, empowering them to develop a wide range of skills spanning design, engineering, manufacturing, and essential “soft skills” highly sought after by industries, including project management, teamwork, collaboration, problem-solving, and effective communication. This transformative experience also incorporates the intricate elements of underwater design, coding, and electronics.

Participants are tasked with designing and operating either a Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle (ROV), a fully functional submarine, or a captivating three-dimensional virtual scale model of futuristic living quarters within a submarine.
